1. I went to the funeral in New York with members of Bijal's racquetball, laboratory, and poker circles last week, while the Microbiology department held a memorial potluck in Athens in Bijal's memory.
On behalf of everyone on that trip, I would like to thank the Patel family for their hospitality -- we were all incredibly honored to be part of the ceremony recognizing the end of Bijal's life. And personally, I found it really moving.
